Egencia and the Egencia Global Alliance to offset the carbon footprint of all visitors to the Egencia stand at the Business Travel Show by planting 5,000 trees in Brazil’s Atlantic Forest

London, 26 February 2020 — Today Egencia®, business travel management from Expedia Group™, announces a sustainability offer by Egencia Consulting. This includes a four-pronged programme to help clients build more sustainable travel programmes. To mark this announcement and contribute to Expedia Group’s carbon neutral status, Egencia, along with Tour House of Brazil and other Egencia Global Alliance (EGA) members, is planting 5,000 trees in the Atlantic Forest of Brazil. This commitment will offset travel made by event attendees that visit the Egencia stand during the two-day show. Since 2016, Egencia Consulting has successfully helped travel managers optimise their travel programme for sustainability, and today this programme is being made available to all customers. It adds to the range of tools travel managers have to help them build more sustainable travel programmes, including Carbon Emissions Workspace in Egencia Analytics Studio which features Dashboards for Hotel and Air — Rail to be released in the spring. “Every day travel managers seek our advice on how to build a more sustainable travel programme.   With the Egencia Consulting sustainability offer, they get expert advice from deep industry specialists”, says Manuel Brachet, Vice President of Account Management, Egencia. “We’re working to support customers’ sustainability objectives across multiple areas of business travel, today with real-time carbon emission data reports and consulting, and tomorrow with tools and insights to make more sustainable travel choices”. Egencia Consulting’s sustainability offer delivers a diagnostic approach to optimising travel programmes by providing insights into four key areas:
  • Planet: Incorporating sustainability into travel policy such as guidance on how to choose direct flights over stopovers, leverage eco-hotels and select hybrid cars for hire.
  • People: Building an environmentally conscious work culture, like optimising work trips and ensuring that the workforce is culturally aware and sensitive to well-being.
  • Profit: Scenario planning including the financial, well-being and productivity impacts of any policy changes.
  • Performance: Measuring the impact of policy changes such as the impact of having fewer travellers per work trip or tracking a carbon budget per team or department.
“We wanted a sustainable travel programme that went further than just air travel, so we decided to focus on hotels”, says Peggy Gabriel, Global Category Manager FM & HR Services, Vattenfall. “We worked closely with Egencia Consulting sustainability practice to set our sustainability requirements, benchmark these against the hotel market and evaluate the results. Most importantly, we then made our preferred sustainable hotels visible through our online booking system, really integrating sustainability into the core of our travel programme”. Egencia Consulting advises on all types of travel programmes, whether simple or mature, through a range of services delivered by a team of industry specialists. For more mature travel programmes, an in-depth performance analysis benchmarked against the industry and competitors is available. Egencia, along with Expedia Group, is aligned with eight of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals including protecting the planet, providing quality education and advancing equality. In 2019 Expedia Group donated millions of dollars to causes such as Conservation International and Para la Naturaleza. In celebration of the Carnival of Brazil, Egencia’s 10 year anniversary in Brazil with EGA partner Tour House, and the Carnival-themed party at the Business Travel Show, Egencia, Tour House and partners from across the EGA network, are committing to planting 5000 trees in the Atlantic Rain Forest of Brazil.
